Two Free WordPress Plugins from Wayanad — Built to Solve Real Problems

Good WordPress plugins are built to solve real problems. Not theoretical ones — real ones that a developer has personally hit, spent hours trying to fix, and eventually decided to build the solution themselves.

That is exactly how both of the free WordPress plugins listed here came to exist. They were built by Sanmatiraj from Muttil, Wayanad — a web designer who has been building and maintaining WordPress sites for clients in Kerala and beyond for nearly two decades through Ethweb Datacomm. Both plugins are published on the official WordPress.org plugin repository, completely free, and actively maintained.

Here is what they do and why they exist.

Plugin 1 — Ethwebs Floating Chat Button with Page Link

The problem it solves: Almost every business website needs a WhatsApp chat button. There are dozens of plugins that add one. But virtually none of them tell you which page the visitor was on when they tapped the button — which means every WhatsApp enquiry starts with “Hi” and no context, forcing you to ask what the visitor wanted before the conversation can even begin.

This plugin fixes that. When a visitor taps the floating WhatsApp button, the pre-filled message automatically includes the exact URL of the page they are on. You receive the message and immediately know whether the visitor was looking at your product page, your services page, a blog post, or your contact page. The response is faster, more relevant, and far more likely to lead to a conversion.

Key Features

  • Automatic page URL in the WhatsApp message — the defining feature that most similar plugins lack
  • Lightweight and speed-safe — uses cached frontend assets with no impact on Core Web Vitals or Google PageSpeed score. For any site where SEO matters, this is not a small thing
  • WooCommerce controls — hide the button on cart and checkout pages to avoid distracting buyers at the payment stage, while keeping it visible on product pages where enquiries are valuable
  • Granular display rules — show or hide on homepage, blog posts, specific pages, or individual posts from a simple settings panel
  • Per-page control — enable or disable directly from the WordPress page or post editor without touching the global settings
  • Works on any theme — tested on Astra, GeneratePress, OceanWP, and other popular themes
  • Mobile-first — on mobile, one tap opens WhatsApp directly with the number and pre-filled message ready

Who Should Install This

Any WordPress site where WhatsApp is a primary communication channel — which in India means almost every small business site, hotel, homestay, tour operator, clinic, spice shop, or service provider. If your visitors use WhatsApp and you want to know what they were looking at when they reached out, this plugin is the cleanest free solution available.

Plugin 2 — Ethwebs Media Cleanup

The problem it solves: WordPress has a well-known storage problem. When you delete a post or page, WordPress deletes the post — but not the images attached to it. Every thumbnail size, every resized version, every image that was uploaded specifically for that post stays in your media library and on your server, quietly consuming storage space indefinitely.

On a site that has been running for several years — publishing posts, updating content, replacing images — this orphaned media can add up to gigabytes of wasted storage. On shared hosting plans common in India, storage costs money. On sites with large image libraries, the bloat also affects media library search and load times.

Ethwebs Media Cleanup addresses this automatically. When a post is permanently deleted from WordPress, the plugin automatically deletes the media files attached to that post — including all generated thumbnail sizes — cleaning up storage without manual intervention.

Key Features

  • Automatic cleanup on post deletion — no manual steps, no separate cleanup routine to remember
  • Deletes all thumbnail sizes — not just the original image but every resized variant WordPress generated, which is often 4 to 6 additional files per image
  • Protects shared media — intelligently identifies images that are used elsewhere (as logos, advertisement banners, featured images on other posts) and does not delete them. Only truly orphaned attachments are removed
  • Works silently in the background — no interface to manage, no settings to configure. Install, activate, and it works

Who Should Install This

Any WordPress site that has been running for more than a year and regularly publishes or updates content. Particularly useful for news sites, blogs, e-commerce product pages where images change frequently, and client sites on limited hosting storage plans.
